Task 7 - Professional Bodies Supporting the Industry

Explain and illustrate the professional bodies supporting the functions within the games industry. Produce a profile for each of the following:

UKIE
The Association for UK Interactive Entertainment

"Ukie [...] is the only trade body for the UK's games and wider interactive entertainment industry. [They] are a not-for-profit and are passionate about games, games businesses and their place in the world. [...]

Everything [they] do helps to support, grow and promote [their] members' businesses and the wider UK games and interactive entertainment industry by making sure [they] have the right economic, cultural, political and social environment needed for businesses to thrive."

They offer multiple services to games companies located in the UK, who are registered with them. The services they provide include research, connections and practical support.  It also allows smaller game companies to have a bigger voice in the games industry.

IGDA
The International Game Developers Association

"[IGDA] is the largest non-profit membership organization in the world serving all individuals who create games.


As an international organization, [they] are a global network of collaborative projects and communities comprised of individuals from all fields of game development - from programmers and producers to writers, artists, QA and localization."

IGDA brings together developers from all different interests and helps them improve their trade and craft, whether you work independently or with a AAA studio. Their goal is to improve the entire industry by receiving input from people from all backgrounds.

WIGJ
Women in Games Jobs
"[WIGJ] works to recruit, retain and support the progression of women in the games industry by positively and actively promoting  female role models and giving encouragement and information to those women seeking to work in games.

Women in Games Jobs was incorporated as a “not for profit” or Community Interest Company under the UK’s Companies Act 2006 on 2 June 2011."


WIDJ focus on dispelling the popular belief that game design is a male dominated industry by preforming surveys and collecting data from different areas of the industry.


BAFTA
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts

BAFTA is a charity that supports and develops moving art forms such as TV, games and films by distributing awards to those who have contributed a lot to society. There mission is to bring new talent to the publics attention and reward great past work.


MEF
Mobile Entertainment Forum

"MEF is the global trade association for companies wishing to monetize their products & services via mobile. MEF prides itself in shaping the development of the industry by regulating it. It helps to build communities for all types of developers.
